Now that I am back home, I miss having walking incorporated into my daily life. I enjoy exercise with a purpose, and walking to get places gives you a purpose to exercise. I am, however, glad to be able to drive in a car with air conditioning. I have found myself talking more quietly because when traveling on the tube, people talk softly, so now my friends and family keep saying I am talking too softly for them to hear me well. When I arrived at an American airport, I first filled up my water bottle at a fill station. I missed having freely accessible water in Europe. I also think the tap water tastes better in the United States. I would advise future study abroad students to pack light. I thought I was not bringing too many clothes, but I ended up not wearing all of them, so it was harder to get home with my souvenirs. I would also recommend general awareness around purses and phones. I did not get my things stolen, but I hear other people’s stories of them getting their phone pulled out of their hand while they were walking down the street. After this trip, I feel like I have a better perspective on subtle cultural differences. I now have curiosity about how other cultures do things differently than my own. I think it is interesting to see how people have come up with different ways of doing things, and I think these experiences make for more open-minded people.
