As my first trip of my twenties, I chose to travel to Milan with a quick stop in Lake Como for the Olympics. It was the first trip I planned entirely on my own. Although navigating the busy train station and staying in my first hostel felt daunting at times, I am incredibly grateful for the experience. Being in Milan during such an international event was unforgettable. Watching people from so many cultures come together to support their home countries was inspiring and energizing.

The atmosphere reminded me of being in Bryant Denny Stadium, the crowds, the anticipation, the shared excitement, and of course, the thrill of a win. I was lucky enough to attend the hockey games. As someone new to the sport, it was exciting to learn and experience it firsthand. After the incredible win from the USA women’s team, I found myself in the fan village when the men’s team secured gold. Celebrating alongside people from across the United States, all united in support, was an incredible moment of connection and pride.

Beyond the games, the city offered countless free programs and events that made the experience even more special. Escaping to Lake Como provided a peaceful contrast to the high energy atmosphere of Milan, a beautiful and calming retreat. While attending the Olympics is a rare opportunity, this trip gave me something just as meaningful, confidence in my ability to travel and a reminder of the unforgettable memories that come from stepping outside my comfort zone.
