Being from the Midwest, traveling to arrive in my study abroad city was a nightmare. With various flight delays, missing connections, and rerouting, issues are bound to arise. For me, the aircraft for my connection from Detroit to Paris had a fuel leak, meaning we had to change aircraft and delay our flight four hours. Because we switched aircraft and many people had to rebook to different flights, it was a mess for the ground crew to sort through all the luggage and put the correct baggage under the plane. When I landed in Paris, my AirTag location showed me that my luggage was still in Detroit. That’s my first piece of advice: ALWAYS HAVE AN AIRTAG IN YOUR CHECKED BAGS! As much as you try to plan for every scenario, some things you just cannot control. Eventually, I made it to Florence. However, my bag did not arrive when I did. It was two days later when my luggage arrived at the Florence airport. I tracked my AirTag late at night and saw it was moving away from the airport, but it stayed at a location that was not my delivery location for 24 hours. I was getting very stressed, so I sent many emails and visited the mail room at my university. Thankfully, the gentleman working there advised me to remain calm, as the location where my bag was located was likely a delivery truck company. Later that afternoon, I went shopping with my friends. I tracked my AirTag and found that my luggage was on the move to the mail room! I was ecstatic! My friends so graciously came with me to pick up my luggage. That’s my second piece of advice: THE FRIENDS THAT WILL WALK OVER A MILE TO HELP YOU PICK UP YOUR LUGGAGE ARE TRUE FRIENDS! After 48 hours, my luggage and I were reunited at last, and now it’s a memory I can always look back on and laugh at. No matter what happens, even though it may seem like it’s the end of the world, it will always work itself out. Just trust the process!
