Today, members of Yonder Contemporary Dance Company are heading to Scotland to perform in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. After a seven-and-a-half-hour rehearsal yesterday, we’re feeling ready to take the stage for an international audience. I’m beyond excited to dance abroad, share my ideas and artistry with others, and experience the creativity of performers from around the world. I’m also very excited to watch other shows and immerse myself in a new artistic environment.
In preparation for the trip, I made a detailed checklist to make sure everything was in order. I double-checked that my apartment bills were paid, notified my bank of my travel plans, and confirmed that my passport was valid alongside my Real ID.
I’m not feeling nervous about going abroad, especially since my family has traveled a lot across the U.S. Plus, my mom is meeting me in Scotland and is attending three of our shows. I’m so excited she’ll get to see my choreography and watch the company perform. I’m also hoping we can do some sightseeing together, along with my friends.
I’m looking forward to gaining creative inspiration from other performances I’ll see at the festival. I also want to explore Edinburgh and learn more about the city’s historical significance. One of the activities I am most excited about is hiking Arthur’s Seat. I love hiking, so I can’t wait to take in the views of the city and the rolling hills.
Since I’ve never flown internationally before, my anticipation is high! I’m hoping to get some rest on the plane, and maybe squeeze in a few movies! See y’all in Scotland!
