Studying abroad was something I had always hoped to do during college, but the UA MIS in Europe program made the decision easy. As a senior in the MIS program, the opportunity to visit companies and engage in hands-on learning abroad felt like the perfect capstone experience. When I learned we’d be visiting Germany and the Czech Republic, I knew I had to go. Both countries have such a rich blend of history, culture, and technological innovation, which made them ideal destinations for learning outside the classroom.
In preparing for the trip, I focused on making sure I had the essentials—passport, travel gear, and a solid understanding of our itinerary. But beyond packing, I spent time thinking about what I wanted to get out of this experience. I hoped to gain a broader perspective on how technology is applied around the world, to deepen my understanding of cybersecurity and enterprise systems, and to explore cultures I had only read about. Most of all, I was excited to meet new people and leave the trip with some unforgettable memories.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous—traveling internationally for an academic program comes with unknowns. But I felt confident knowing I’d be going with classmates and a professor I trust and respect. I was excited to explore Berlin, Munich, and Prague, and grateful for receiving a scholarship that made the experience possible. This trip was something I had dreamed of, and it finally felt real as I zipped up my suitcase and headed to the airport.
