During the UA in Asia program, we had the opportunity to visit the beautiful and culturally rich country of Cambodia, located in Southeast Asia. Among incredible landscapes and beautiful temples, Cambodia became one of the highlights of our journey throughout the region. Cambodia offers various unforgettable tourist attractions that we had the honor of visiting throughout the program, from visiting local markets to historical temples. Perhaps the most memorable experience during our stay in this country was our visit to Angkor Wat, a historic temple located in the city of Siem Reap. Often referred to as the 8th wonder of the world, Angkor Wat is a Hindu-Buddhist temple that dates back to 1150 AD. This temple is known to be one of the highlights of the country due to its intricate designs, incredible architecture, and religious significance. This temple is very significant to Cambodian culture and is even included in the design of the Cambodian flag. We set our morning alarms for 3:00 AM to view the sunrise over the temple, and to say that it was a breathtaking sight is an understatement! Throughout the tour of Angkor Wat, our tour guide informed us of Angkor Wat’s fascinating history, sharing details about the intricate designs, sophisticated architecture, and cultural significance. Our visit to Angkor Wat not only deepened our knowledge and understanding of Cambodian history, but also allowed us to learn about one of the world’s most incredible architectural creations. Among all of our experiences in Cambodia, visiting Angkor Wat was undoubtedly the most memorable!
