Packing for study abroad? Think smart, stylish, and just a little extra. After a month in Europe, here’s what I wish I had known:

  • Stick to classics: Neutrals and basics go a long way—tailored pants, sleek sneakers, and a jacket that matches everything. Loud logos = tourist.
  • Comfortable shoes are non-negotiable: My OnClouds were great for walking but didn’t match everything. My cute Vejas? Barely worn. Bring shoes that are comfy and versatile.
  • Pack for cooler weather: May isn’t as warm as you’d expect. Everyone overpacked for summer and ended up rewearing the same sweaters. Layer wisely!
  • Practical minimalism: Two pairs of jeans or pants you love + several staple shirts and sweaters = easy outfits. Only bring what you’ll actually wear.
  • Add a few bold pieces: Europeans love confidence. Bring items that show your style. And girls—bring the dresses! You’ll be eating out a lot, and I had to buy one last-minute for a formal dinner.
  • Crossbody bag = essential: Pick one that’s cute, secure, and fits hand sanitizer, credit cards, coins (you’ll need them for public restrooms!), and goes with everything.
  • Other must-haves: Cheap sunglasses (not designer—they scream steal me), a European adapter (especially for curling irons), and skip the hair dryer—hotels usually have them.
  • Budget tip: Bring more money than you think. I budgeted $100/day but didn’t account for spontaneous splurges—like buying designer or all the cute leather bags in Italy.

Pack smart, embrace your style, and walk with confidence—you belong there.
