Motivation/Reasoning
I chose to go on a mission trip to Livingstone, Zambia, because I felt called to serve and make a difference beyond my local community. This opportunity aligned with my passion for healthcare, faith, and helping underserved populations. I considered the timing with school, the cost, and the mission of the organization before committing. I also saw it as a chance to grow spiritually and step out of my comfort zone.
Preparation
To prepare, I’ve been gathering supplies, updating vaccinations, and learning about the local culture and environment. Emotionally and mentally, I’ve been praying, journaling, and speaking with others who’ve gone on similar trips. I’m packing light clothing, hygiene items, a first-aid kit, and small gifts for the community. More importantly, I’m bringing an open heart, a humble spirit, and a willingness to learn.
Thoughts/Feelings
I feel a mix of excitement and nervousness as I get closer to leaving. I’m excited to meet new people, serve, and grow from this experience, but also anxious about the unknown. I often think about my family and friends, knowing I’ll miss them but carry their support with me. Prayer and reflection help me stay grounded and focused on the purpose of the trip.
Expectations/Goals
During my time in Zambia, I hope to serve with compassion and learn from the community. I want to gain insight into global health needs and how culture and faith influence daily life. I look forward to visiting clinics and schools and building relationships with those I meet. My goal is to return with a deeper understanding of service and a renewed sense of purpose in my future career.
