My latest adventure has taken me from Bidgood and Hewson Hall, all the way to the University of Dubrovnik, Croatia. As someone who has never been to Europe, this whole experience thus far has been magical.

I have to admit, I was pretty nervous at first, making my way over to Europe. I had no idea how I would react to such a different culture than what I grew up in, or what I’ve become accustomed to in Alabama. I knew I had to keep an open mind though and be thankful for every moment.

Dubrovnik has an incredible, and historic old town. Behind towering walls is a charming city, filled with secret alleyways, delicious foods, and incredible museums. My first day in old town, I just soaked it in. I explored the city with some peers, and tried some of the food that they had to offer. Following day 1 was our first day of class.

The University of Dubrovnik’s Economics building was so pretty. Right outside of a neighborhood, and on the water, it is truly a great area to relax and learn. Our professor, Dr. Junsoo Lee, gave us an incredible first lecture and gave us tips on what to do in old town with our free time.

Later that week, our group had the opportunity to tour the walls of old town Dubrovnik. Standing up there, looking over the red roofs, and winding alleyways that have stood the test of time, my imagination went wild. It was surreal to think that there were sieges once where I stood.

It was fascinating to start to connect some of the macroeconomic concepts to the country of Croatia through Dr. Lee’s teachings. I am looking forward to the next leg of the trip, where we will be touring Zagreb and the Central Bank!
