I am currently three months into my study abroad program at the American College of Greece in Athens, Greece. The school is located in a neighborhood just outside the hustle and bustle of downtown, offering a peaceful and quiet atmosphere, while still being only a 30 minute commute from the heart of the city. This location is the perfect balance, providing a serene living environment with easy access to the vibrancy of downtown. Athens has proven to be an excellent destination for study abroad students due to its diverse range of activities, as well as the many opportunities to connect with other international students. The city is rich in history, with top tier museums and archaeological sites that showcase its nearly 3,000 years of cultural significance. It’s truly incredible to learn about the history of a city that has been inhabited for such a long time. Beyond the historical sites, Athens is also home to fantastic restaurants, beautiful beaches, trendy shops, and a lively nightlife scene. A huge part of why this experience has been so rewarding is the close friendships I’ve formed with other students. Sharing the study abroad journey has helped us bond in a unique way as we navigate a new culture and city together. Whether it’s exploring ancient ruins, trying delicious local food, or simply enjoying the atmosphere of the city, there’s always something to do. In conclusion, Athens has been an amazing city to study abroad in, offering something for everyone and providing a strong sense of community among students.
