Studying abroad in Spain has been an incredible experience, not only for academics but also for cultural immersion. Recently, we visited three historical cities of Spain: Granada, Salamanca, and Toledo.

Granada was one of the most captivating places we explored. Walking through the Alhambra felt like stepping back in time, surrounded by intricate Moorish architecture and stunning views of the Sierra Nevada. The city’s blend of Islamic, Christian, and Jewish influences reflects Spain’s diverse past. Also, they serve great tapas! If you go to Granada do NOT forget to check those tapas yourself)

Salamanca, home to one of the oldest universities in Europe, had a completely different charm. The city’s sandstone buildings glowed golden under the sunlight, and the Plaza Mayor was a perfect place to experience local life. Salamanca’s deep academic and cultural significance makes it a must-visit for anyone interested in Spain’s intellectual heritage. (Try to find the frog)

Toledo, known as the “City of Three Cultures,” amazed me with its well-preserved medieval streets and mix of Christian, Muslim, and Jewish influences. The Toledo Cathedral and the Alcázar showcased the city’s historical grandeur, while local artisans still craft the famous Toledo steel.

A highlight of the trip was attending a flamenco show! The emotions you get from the show are indescribable. This is a MUST EXPERIENCE! The sharp and fast movements are so powerful that keep you engaged throughout the show.

These cities have given me a deeper appreciation for Spain’s history, art, and traditions, making my study abroad journey even more meaningful. I am very happy to choose Spain for my study abroad experience. Experiencing the culture and language while actually living in Spain is completely different from just visiting as a tourist.
