Today, our Manderson Graduate College GELI cohort had an incredible day in Panama City, diving into impactful community service, engaging with global business leaders, and exploring innovation in logistics. Each experience deepened our understanding of global business and societal impact.
Giving Back with Glasswing International
We kicked off the day by volunteering with Glasswing International, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering communities through education and health programs. Glasswing focuses on breaking the cycle of poverty by equipping individuals with skills and resources to create lasting change. Our team had the opportunity to engage with local initiatives, providing hands-on support and witnessing firsthand the organization’s dedication to uplifting underserved communities. The experience was a reminder that business acumen goes beyond boardrooms—it has the power to transform lives.
Insights from the World Bank: A Conversation with Javier Romero, Senior Economist
Following our community engagement, we shifted to a global economic perspective with a speaker session featuring Javier Romero at the World Bank. The World Bank is a vital international institution focused on reducing poverty and supporting economic development through financing and policy advice. Javier shared insights into Panama’s economic landscape, discussing sustainable growth strategies, the role of foreign investment, and the challenges and opportunities shaping the region. His expertise provided us with a real-world perspective on economic policy and its intersection with business.
Exploring Logistics & Innovation at Boxit
Our final stop was Boxit, an innovative logistics and storage solutions company revolutionizing last-mile delivery and e-commerce fulfillment in Latin America. Boxit specializes in smart lockers and warehouse automation, making logistics more efficient and accessible for businesses and consumers alike. Touring their facilities, we saw how cutting-edge technology is optimizing supply chain operations in a rapidly growing market. As future business leaders, witnessing these innovations firsthand reinforced the importance of adaptability and strategic problem-solving in today’s global economy.
