The maymester starts only a few days after the finals in Tuscaloosa end. During your finals, you might be daydreaming of what your classes, adventure, and life will look like in a week being halfway across the world. Not without reason.

The UA in Europe: Macroeconomics has a great perk about it: it’s a large group, and so you will meet someone on the plane ride over. On my flight, there were 20 of us, mostly on the back of the plane, so we got to start getting to know each other before we left the States.

The best thing about Dubrovnik is that it is a very easy transition into Europe and studying abroad in general. We stayed here the longest (5 days), and once we got to know the city, having a routine set up of classes, lunch, studying, and evenings was so beneficial to setting our bearings and allowing ourselves to have the most success.

Our classrooms had windows overlooking the marina (which makes it a bit hard to pay attention when you have a beautiful view right next to you) but our teacher, Dr. Junsoo Lee, was so engaging that you couldn’t help but to listen and learn from him.

While in Dubrovnik, I made the 6 mile total hike up the mountain two separate days, and the views from up there were stupendous both times. You could see the emerald sea and the Old City with all of its apricot-colored roofs on one side and the mountains of Bosnia & Herzegovina on the other. I have only 2 more weeks here and I hope I have as much fun in the other places we go as I have had in Dubrovnik!
