Upon arriving back home, I felt grateful for the experiences that I had while abroad and Bangkok. Of course I will miss the people I met, fun excursions, and the daily walk to the coffee shop, but I am also happy to be back home with my family and able to share with them everything that I learned and did. As delicious as the food in Thailand was, I am also looking forward to a good American burger.

I would say that this trip has given me perspective into daily life outside of the United States. It was fascinating to learn from the culture of the Thai people and nursing students. I believe through my experiences in the hospital I will take away great knowledge of how to be a more holistic and empathetic nurse, especially towards those who may be vastly different from myself.

Although I was not abroad very long, I do find myself having to readjust a little. While abroad, I never had to drive and I do miss walking or taking a taxi places. I do also miss the affordability of Thailand compared to American pricing.

Advice to future students:

Never book with a third party site. Always go directly through the airline. I had to reschedule my flight several times due to cancellations or changes until booking directly through an airline.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help in the airport! Some of them are confusing and in my experience the staff was very helpful.

Pack lightly, but it can also be helpful to check a bag. I found myself wanting to buy souvenirs that I could not fit in my carry-on, so checking a bag would have been helpful. Also figure out where you can do laundry–it is easier to wash clothes and rewear them than pack lots of clothes you have to take home dirty.

Learn a couple phrases in the local language. Lots of people were happy and excited to share their language with others, and they enjoy it when you greet them in it.

Don’t be afraid to try new things! Try all the local foods and go on as many adventures as possible.
