I thought that just going abroad in general would be out of my comfort zone, but then I went on a trip that really pushed me. This trip was Morocco. Leading up to the trip and during it I was filled with many unknowns and discomforts at times. Now looking back, it was definitely the coolest place I’ve ever been to and a once in a lifetime trip. Pushing myself outside of my comfort zone allowed me to experience a new continent and culture with new friends. Although the University of Alabama has given me many opportunities to get outside of my comfort zone, abroad has allowed me to really get uncomfortable and experience amazing things.
Getting to experience the Sahara Desert was an unreal experience I will always carry with me. Being somewhere so quiet and still was something I never really get to experience as a college student. Being in the desert was so unfamiliar, but once I realized it wasn’t supposed to be similar to anything I really began to take in the beauty. Being in the Sahara forced me to slow down and appreciate my surroundings and the new friendships I was making. Being so far out of my comfort zone made me realize how much I rely on routine and familiarity and how much I can actually handle without them. It wasn’t the easiest trip I’ve taken, but it was one of the most memorable. It gave me a new sense of confidence in myself and my ability to adapt. It also reminded me that some of the best experiences come from taking risks and embracing the unknown.
