As my semester in Florence gets closer, I’ve been focusing on researching the places I’ll be calling home and the places I hope to explore on the weekends. I wanted to start this journey feeling informed, confident, and excited, so I’ve been doing a mix of local research on entertainment, food, and safety for both Florence and the destinations on my travel bucket list.
For Florence, I’ve looked into the best ways to enjoy the city beyond the typical tourist spots. I’ve been exploring local food recommendations, neighborhood cafés, and authentic restaurants to help me blend in rather than feel like a visitor. I’ve also researched nightlife and entertainment to find areas that are lively but still safe for students living abroad.
Safety has been a major part of my preparation. I’ve read up on the safest neighborhoods, common scams in popular areas, and tips for using public transportation confidently. Doing this now makes me feel much more prepared for day-to-day life once I arrive.
For my weekend trips, places like Copenhagen, Budapest, Zermatt, Interlaken, and more. I’ve been doing similar research so I can make the most of each short visit. Understanding local customs, recommended foods, and safe transportation options helps me travel smarter and enjoy every moment.
Overall, this preparation has made the upcoming semester feel real. I’m not just planning a trip; I’m getting ready for a whole new lifestyle.
