In Vietnam there is a very special place one can visit and in doing so take part in Guinness record holding cable cart rides. The place is Mount Fransipan and it is the tallest peak in all of Indochina measuring over 10,000 feet in elevation or 3,147 meters. The first step to reaching this peak is either begin at the bottom of the mountain and begin the Trek of your life or you can pay just over one million dong for a train ride up to the cable car station. From there you make your way onto a nonstop cable car that extends over six kilometers making it the longest nonstop cable car in the world. However, it is not just distance across that is record breaking as this car also holds the record for the greatest change in elevation for a nonstop car at just under 1500 meters of ascension. In the cable car you truly do touch the cloud as you see the hilly terrain of Sapa from a very different perspective. Once you reach the Franzipan station you can have a wide array of scenery depending on the weather. Some days there will be blue skins with lush green mountains to look down upon and other days there will be nothing but eerie fog as far as the eyes can see. Unfortunately, during our trip up the fog made a strong appearance cutting us off from the bustling world below us. It was an otherworldly experience while me and a group of friends battled the pouring down rain to reach the peak. This consisted of taking hundreds of steps which happened to be flooded this day as well as battle the freezing cold rain itself being so high in elevation. Ultimately the peak was worth it as when we reached the top there was a great pyramid marker as well as flags of Vietnam and only a couple of other people who had made and finished the wet journey. Fortunately for us they had a train that transported us from the peak down to the cable car station where we made the journey back to the train and the world below the clouds ultimately became visible again. For the adventurers and the experience junkies I would highly recommend visiting mount Fransipan because whether it is clear skies of biblical floods when traveling with friends the ceiling of Indochina still finds a way to make the journey great.
