After a loooong flight and a few days adjusting to the new environment, I spent my first weekend in the UK in London. London was certainly much a much different environment than Oxford, where my classes were. First of all, the sheer size of the city really stood out to me. It seems like I could’ve spent the entire month in the city, and I wouldn’t have been able to discover half of it. Of course, the streets are always bustling, so the London Underground is the best way to get around town. Definitely one of the most efficient subway/train systems I’ve ever used, and very easy to use! I saw all the sights, like the Tower Bridge, the Eye, and Big Ben. Man, Westminster was packed! I also visited Abbey Road, and, of course, my new friends and I had to recreate the Beatles album cover. It’s certainly trendy for Americans to make fun of what British people eat, but I found that the food in London is great! My favorite part of the city was definitely visiting the many, many markets that are open nearly every day of the week. The best one, in my opinion, was the Portabello Road Market in Notting Hill. This market seemed like the place to be, if you’re into vintage fashion and delicious street food! It was very hot, which was tough since there’s essentially no air conditioning anywhere in the city. But, other than that, London was a fantastic experience! I will be back!
