I chose to study abroad to broaden my global perspective in Public Relations and Advertising alongside others who have similar interests. South Korea’s rich cultural heritage and a booming media and tech industry makes it the ideal place to explore innovation PR strategies and global communication trends.

As a freshman, I believed immersing myself early in an unfamiliar environment would allow me to make the most out of the experience through my college career. I carefully considered financial aspects and found South Korea to be affordable compared to others. Its global influence in entertainment, technology, and media was also a major factor in my decision.

Before the program, I was anxious, but that disappeared because I felt welcomed. I miss my support system, but I must stay grounded in my reasons for studying abroad and acknowledge that I must step out and forward towards opportunities that will prepare me for my future career.

I prepared by researching Korean culture, food, and lifestyle, and spoke to others with experience. This helped me feel more confident, though I still worried about adapting and showing proper respect. Navigating a new culture can be overwhelming, but I strive to stay respectful, open-minded, and focused on my goals.

This experience teaches me resilience, adaptability, and self-awareness. These are qualities that will benefit both my personal development and professional journey.
