Wow—what a way to kick off my study abroad adventure! I spent my first week in Dubrovnik, Croatia, and I honestly feel like I stepped into a movie set. Between the stunning views, the salty sea air, and the nonstop activities, this week was everything I hoped for and more.

One of the best parts? Kayaking on the Adriatic! We paddled past the city’s ancient stone walls and explored hidden caves along the coast. The water was unbelievably clear—like, see-the-bottom-from-your-boat clear. We even stopped at a small beach and jumped in for some snorkeling. Floating over the fish and rocky sea floor, I felt completely disconnected from stress and school… at least for a little while.

And yes—there was some actual studying involved. I took my first exam this week, which felt a little strange considering I had spent the morning in a kayak and the afternoon in a swimsuit. But hey, that’s the beauty of studying abroad: blending school with once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Dubrovnik has already set the bar so high. I’ve met some great people, seen some incredible sights, and even got a nice sunburn to prove it. Next stop: Italy—let’s see what week two has in store!
