Coming back from my study abroad experience in New Zealand and Australia, I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude. The past few weeks has been life changing. From exploring the rich cultures and landscapes to having conversations that challenged my how I view the world, I learned more than I ever I would.

My first week back home was a whirlwind. Jet lag hit me hard, and trying to get my sleep schedule back on track has felt like its own journey. I’ve also been adjusting to the little things again, like tipping (why is 20% the standard?) and reminding myself that I cannot keep mentally converting everything back to Aussie or New Zealand dollars while shopping.

One of the most beautiful parts of this journey was the people. I met locals who welcomed us with open arms and stories, and I bonded with classmates I might have never crossed paths with back on campus. There is something about being far from home together, navigating new cities, trying new foods, and getting a little lost, that brings people closer in the best way.

I can confidently say that studying abroad was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It pushed me to grow in ways I didn’t even know I needed. I stepped out of my comfort zone and into new experiences that I’ll carry with me forever.

If you are ever given the opportunity to study abroad, take it. And if it’s a faculty-led program, definitely go for it. The structure, the support, and the chance to travel with a group of fellow students makes it even more meaningful. You will come back with memories, friendships, and a better understanding of both the world and yourself.
