I traveled to Australia and New Zealand, and I had the time of my life. Now that I am home, I am already missing it. I miss the food, people, accents, and so much more. I realize how much more authentic foreign country’s foods are than the United States. When I first arrived at the airport, I thought “wow, everyone is walking on the opposite side of the sidewalk.” Only to remember that in America we walk to the right side, not the left like Australiana’s and New Zealanders. I also keep waiting for the people I am talking to, to have accents. However, no one here does. It is crazy how going abroad for only 3 weeks can change your life. Study abroad has changed me for the better, I feel like I have a better understanding of how to shift into different cultures. I remember the first day I was so confused about driving on the left side of the road, and the degrees being in Celsius, and mile per hour being in kilometers. After being there for three weeks, I began to understand everything, and it became second nature for me. Lastly, one of my most favorite things about being abroad were the friends I made along the way. Locally and in my group. I have made friendships that will last a lifetime, and I am forever thankful for the opportunity that the University of Alabama gave me. I hope to return to the Southern Hemisphere very soon.
