When you hear study abroad it is common to hear Barcelona, Paris, Rome, etc. but through a day trip, I was able to experience all that the city of Prague in the Czech Republic has to offer.
Prague is a historic city situated on a river and adorned with stately buildings in various colors. Popular attractions here include Prague Castle with St. Vitus Cathedral, the town square, the astronomical clock, and various markets. With one day to spend in the city, our group left the airport via the metro system and immediately traveled to Prague Castle. After exploring this area, we once again took the metro to travel to the area surrounding the town center where we enjoyed an authentic lunch including dishes like Schnitzel, Goulash, and potato dumplings. After that we visited the town center, seeing the astronomical clock, taking in the sights, and shopping at some of the surrounding shops. An essential next stop is to walk across the historic Charles Bridge. This was my favorite part of the day, with a beautiful view of the city and amazing picture opportunities. We finished the day at a local Beer Garden where the group was able to enjoy time together outside on a day with amazing weather.
Even if just there for one day, my love of Prague was an exciting surprise from my abroad trip. I would highly recommend this excursion to anyone, and I believe this is a city I will be sure to return to!
