By now, I have seen the restless lights of New York City and every pub on the corner of streets in London and have finally made my way to Paris, France! Sure, New York was an American city, but the difference in lifestyle is still so different even if it’s just a couple hours’ flight away. Sure, there were some challenges and different social cues I experienced, and life is definitely go go go and do, but it really isn’t that bad. Being in a big city where everyone has places to be didn’t really feel pushy, but more-so felt inspiring in a sense and almost made you think “wait- do I have somewhere I need to be too?”. It was also really cool getting to still experience the culture of American Sports, as the Knicks were on fire during our stay in NYC. Getting to see the crowds and celebrations really brings you back down to Earth and makes you realize that we really aren’t all that different. Then, after our departure for London, things weren’t as different, as this was still an English speaking country. It was so cool getting to see the usual after-work routines and pub culture. There wasn’t a single person who wasn’t sitting outside of a restaurant or bar after 5:00. They really enjoy their social time which I feel like should be implemented in America. Also, the amount of public transportation taken daily was made evident to me as it was way more than I even considered! There hasn’t been a day within the time I was gone that I did not take a subway, etc. The people in London were not indifferent to being nice, but there was a call for heightened awareness that surrounded keeping your personal items like your phone, wallet, etc. closer to you. Then, the time has came for Paris. I have been here for about 4 days now, so mid-day through the trip. Lifestyle is considerably different- especially meal times. People in Europe don’t sit down to enjoy dinner until at least 8:00 at night which I found way different from America. People also stay out later such as sitting by the Seine at 10:00 and just will be out enjoying their time. The culture of soccer here is also very cool to get to experience and see, as France is playing in a big game coming up this Saturday! Overall, my time abroad so far has been really cool to experience, and there has been some differences in culture to learn, but nothing startling. Getting to travel to these places and study Fashion has truly been so cool.
