I can’t believe I’m going to Greece! Studying abroad has been a dream of mine ever since we first learned about the opportunity in middle school. Now, as a junior in college, it feels like the perfect time to make it happen! I’ve never been out of the country before, so this is a huge step for me, but I knew I wanted to do it before graduating. When I started researching places to go, Thessaloniki, Greece, stood out right away. The city is full of history, religion, culture, and energy. The more I read about it, the more I knew this was where I wanted to be.

I’m preparing in many different ways for this trip! I’ve been packing carefully, and trying not to overpack! I’ve been reading up on Greek culture, customs, and even practicing a little bit of the language (Duolingo), so I feel more connected when I arrive. Of course, I’ll miss my family and friends, but I know they’re just as excited for me as I am for myself!

I’m not nervous at all and am just so excited to finally go! I can’t wait to meet new people, try new food, see new places, and grow through all the new experiences. I keep thinking about how lucky I am to be doing this.

One of the things I’m most excited about is my internship at Aristotle University. I’ll be helping advertise for an upcoming music festival and conducting a study on cultural differences between Greece and the U.S. It’s going to be such a great learning experience, and I’m looking forward to applying what I’ve learned in school in a whole new environment. While I’m abroad, I want to soak up everything! I’ll be experiencing new perspectives, cultural traditions, and real-world work experience. I hope to grow both personally and professionally, and come back with new skills, confidence, and unforgettable memories.

Thessaloniki, I couldn’t be more excited!
