Traveling through Croatia has been fast and furious, with stunning sights, amazing food and a memorable experience. We started the day by leaving Dubrovnik early in the morning and heading north along the coast to Split. Our time in Split was short, but we made the most of it with a quick visit to the Statue of Gregory of Nin, a local symbol of good luck. We had the most delicious lunch of veal risotto, which hit the spot before getting back on the bus to head to our next stop.
Our next stop was Zaton, where we checked into our hotel before heading to nearby Zadar for dinner and the most beautiful sunset I have ever experienced. It truly lived up to its reputation of being ranked as one of the top five sunsets in the world. The view of the sunset over the Adriatic was absolutely awesome. After the sunset, we explored the old town of Zadar and finished our evening by visiting the Sea Organ, which is a set of musical steps that play notes powered by the waves. It was a really unique and peaceful moment of the trip so far.
The next morning, we said goodbye to the coast and made our way inland toward the capital of Croatia, Zagreb. Along the way, we stopped at Plitvice Lakes National Park, where we saw Veliki Slap, the largest waterfall in the country. Before we continued on, we sat down as a group and enjoyed the traditional Croatian meal of lamb and potatoes cooked “under the bell,” which was both rustic and delicious.
