I am half way through my time studying abroad in Florence, Italy! I am having an incredibly transformative experience. Florence, and Italy in general, is an amazing home base – this city is filed with history, art, and, most importantly, good food. I am studying at Lorenzo de’ Medici (LDM) and am taking the following classes: global finance, wines of Italy, wine and food pairing and an introductory Italian class. I have been thoroughly enjoying my classes, and I love the unique set of classes LDM has to offer. Each class is two and a half hours long, so that was a big difference for me, but the time goes by quick as the professors are very engaging.
When I first arrived in Florence two months ago, I was definitely nervous and unsure what to expect. Although it definitely takes some time to adjust, my time here has been incredible. Everyone who studies abroad is in the same boat – in a new place, wanting to make friends, and looking to travel as much as possible! I have met some life-long friends and have had the opportunity to travel to many different countries in Europe. My time here is flying by, and I am enjoying every second.
Some advice on packing!
Everyone told me to pack light, but I ended up packing a little too light. I would say pack a big suitcase, a carry-on suitcase, plus a travelers backpack. If you are studying abroad in Italy, I would advise you to pack for every season. When you first arrive, it is quite chilly; however, the weather warms up pretty fast. Especially for April and May, I would have some good summer staples!
