I leave tomorrow morning for Rabat, Morocco, and it still doesn’t feel real. This trip is something I’ve been looking forward to, but now that it’s here, I’m feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. I’ve studied abroad in theory before, reading about it and planning, but this is my first time actually doing it and my first time flying internationally with multiple connecting flights. I’m really hoping my luggage doesn’t get lost along the way. That’s probably my biggest worry right now.
I’ll be based in Rabat, but our group will also be visiting Fez, Tangier, and the Sahara Desert. I’m especially excited about those, but I also really want to visit Casablanca and Marrakesh while I’m there. I’m hoping to find time and a travel buddy to explore those cities during free weekends.
I’m also a little concerned about staying active while abroad. Lifting weights is a big part of my routine and something I genuinely enjoy, so I’ve been thinking about gym access. I know some gyms in Morocco are gender segregated, so I’m crossing my fingers that there’s a women’s gym nearby where I can keep up with my workouts and not lose all the progress I’ve made.
My suitcase is packed (and pretty full, even though I tried to pack light), and I’m mentally preparing to make the most of every moment. I don’t want to leave with regrets about places I didn’t visit or experiences I didn’t take. I’m hoping to grow more confident in my Arabic and just fully embrace the culture and every opportunity that comes my way.
Wish me luck!!
