Hi readers! My name is Hannah and I am studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark at Technical University of Denmark (DTU). I’m packing up my safety glasses and lab coat to begin a critical course in the chemical engineering curriculum–Unit Operations lab. This will be my first time abroad in Europe ever! I am nervous to be so far from the comfort of my own bed, but excited to experience a new place and culture. However, I am most excited to experience new personal and professional growth. Through this opportunity, I hope to build confidence, learn to navigate change, and find a home in an unfamiliar place.

Denmark is known for their innovative and sustainabile engineering practices with green goals like zero-waste and wind-powered energy. Through DTU, I’m excited to see ways that Danish cultural interacts with engineering practices, and hopefully develop fresh perspectives for my education and career.

While jumping head first into my lab, I hope to see the city in an exploration to find the best matcha. At home, I love to find the best new coffee shops and study spots, and it seems like Copenhagen has not shortage of cafés. Who doesn’t love a fun drink alongside their walk around a new city?! A matcha and biking through the city sounds ideal.

I’m hoping this experience brings me a new understanding of Danish culture which will encourage fresh perspectives in my career and education. After braving the Atlanta airport I feel good. Here’s to trying new things and getting out of my comfort zone!
