As my six-week experience in Colombia comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on what an amazing journey it’s been. During these final days, I’m doing everything I can to soak it all in and appreciate the little things I know I’ll miss once I’m back home. From the breathtaking views, delicious food, and the warmth and kindness of the people, I don’t know how I’ll manage having to leave it all behind.

Every morning, I’ve been spending just a bit more time at the breakfast table, sipping my coffee slowly and staring out the window at a view that’s become so familiar. I’ve learned to savor each meal with not just the taste, but the moment itself. Whether it’s sancocho from the university cafeteria or the fresh, home-cooked meals from the host family, everything has become so special and representative of the place I’ve come to love.

I’ve also been taking more walks through my neighborhood, even in the intense Barranquilla heat, just to feel present in the moment and feel the life of the city. The sounds of music echoing from a nearby apartment, the loud construction on the street, and the constant hum of conversation are all things I want to hold onto.

It’s hard to believe how quickly the time has gone; it feels like I just blinked. Now the countdown has begun, each day feels more precious. The trip isn’t over yet, but I can’t stop thinking about the end. I’m not ready to say goodbye.
