When I first landed in Seville, everything felt different.
One of the best things about Seville is how alive everything feels. People move at a slower pace, but they really live in the moment. The food is simple but extremely good, and the people are welcoming even if my Spanish is still a work in progress.
Classes have been going well. I’m in Spanish for beginners, even though I took it in high school, and a course on global communication. It has been a little more difficult than I expected. Both have been useful, but what makes them better is learning from a different perspective.
One of the biggest highlights so far were the weekend excursions. The second trip was to Marrakech, Morocco. Total change of scenery. The markets were colorful and loud, with spices and fabrics everywhere. We rode camels, tried new food, and got completely lost more than once which turned out to be the best way to explore.
Now that I’m getting closer to heading home, I’ve been thinking a lot about how much this whole experience has changed me. I was nervous to leave behind everything familiar to me, but stepping out of my comfort zone was the best decision I could’ve ever made. The place, the people, even the awkward language moments strangely, I’m going to miss all of it.
