Studying abroad is an experience I knew I wanted to embark on during my time in college. Having the opportunity to study in Spain is a blessing because I’m putting myself out of my comfort zone and growing as an individual in a foreign country. The exposure to a different culture, language, city is a unique experience that would give me the tools needed to take on challenges and deal with what life has to offer confidently. A big part of this decision was because I love to travel and I wanted to learn a new language – Spanish- and I’m glad that I chose to pursue what was a just a thought because now it’s my reality. Spain is a really beautiful country and Sevilla specifically holds a lot of history that drives the core nature of the city. The historical sites, landforms, infrastructure, gastronomy, and the people create a beautiful blend of diverse cultural heritage. Upon leaving the US, I was very nervous about my experience and anxious I would not fit in and enjoy my stay. However, as soon as I arrived I fell in love with the city. What makes this experience unique is that I get to stay in the most central part of the city and live within locals. A big part of Sevilla is the different forms of transport; so, it is very common to see people walking, biking, driving, utilizing public transport. As someone who has a very poor sense of direction, walking has helped me explore Sevilla and familiarize myself with the place. Sevilla is rich in seafood due to the fact that Spain is a coastal country in the south of Europe. I’ve had to adjust my palate because I rarely ate seafood or fish back home, however, one of my favorite dishes is a ‘paella’ which is very delicious. I’m excited to keep exploring, learning, and sharing more about Sevilla.
