Coming to Colombia, I was very excited because it has a culture I’ve always admired, and I would have six weeks to explore and enjoy. When I heard about the opportunity to study abroad, IN Colombia, I knew I just had to go. I have a double major in Spanish and Accounting, so being able to knock out a few Spanish courses while enjoying a different culture was too good an opportunity to pass up.
When I stepped out of the airport, I was welcomed by a super hot and humid climate, but I didn’t care because the view was so beautiful. Even though the bus ride was hot and sticky, I loved every moment and was just in awe at the scenery. I’m originally from Texas, so there isn’t a lot to get excited about as far as the nature scene goes. In comparison, so far, Colombia has the scenery beat. Being here for only a few days, I can already feel the sense of dread knowing I’m going to have to leave it all behind eventually. The food has been nothing short of amazing, and the people are just as amazing. My roommates are native Colombians and welcomed my American classmate and me with open arms. When not in class, we tend to spend a lot of time in the common area of the apartment, talking and playing cards. The other students at the university are also super sweet, and I’ve already made a lot of friends. The experience has been great so far, and I’m so excited to see how the rest of it will go!
