I’ve engaged a lot in local culture so far! We are on the last week of our program now and I’ve been going with the group to local restaurants and stores in all the cities we’ve gone to. In the first city, Athens, we took a taxi up the to the mountain, which we then had to climb, and ate at a really nice restaurant which opened to a view of the city, and the Parthenon! We interacted a lot with the waiter Michael, who joked with us all night. I think I can speak for most of us when I say that we gained a sense of comfort and realness that we didn’t have before. For me personally, I spoke with a local man at the Corinth canal on our way to Nafplio. He asked me about where we were from and what we were doing here. I talked with him for a minute, and told him about my career plans of being a classical archaeologist and where we were visiting next. He told me that classical archaeology is a fascinating career, and he told me that he thinks Corinth is one of the best sites around. He was really sweet.
