Welcome back, fellow adventurers! Today, I’m here to say farewell to the enchanting city of Antigua, Guatemala, where a sensory feast awaits at every turn. I dived into the colors, art, and captivating aromas that make this city a true paradise for the senses. I learned about the Mayan civilization, Guatemala’s culture, and its people. It has been such a great gift.

Antigua is a place where colors come alive, painting the cityscape in vibrant hues. From the vibrant facades of colonial buildings to the intricate patterns of traditional textiles, every corner bursts with an explosion of colors. As you stroll through the cobblestone streets, be prepared to have your eyes dazzled by the mesmerizing tapestry of shades that reflect the rich cultural heritage of Guatemala.

But it’s not just the colors that captivate; it’s the art that breathes life into every inch of this remarkable city. Antigua is a haven for artisans and creative souls, with countless art galleries, workshops, and studios that showcase a diverse range of artistic expressions. Immerse yourself in the beauty of handcrafted ceramics, intricate woodwork, and vibrant paintings that tell stories of the past and present. I’ll miss the olfactory senses as I explored the delightful aromas that waft through the air. I followed my nose to the bustling markets, where the scent of freshly roasted coffee beans mingled with the sweet aroma of tropical fruits.

When you visit Guatemala, don’t miss out on the exciting shopping opportunities that abound. Browse through the local markets, where you can find beautifully woven textiles, intricate handicrafts, and unique souvenirs to bring a piece of Guatemala’s artistry home with you. And for those seeking even more adventure, take a tour to Hobbitenango, a whimsical eco-lodge nestled in the mountains, where you can immerse yourself in a fantasy world inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved novels.

Nature lovers will be delighted to discover the breathtaking hiking trails that wind through the surrounding landscapes, offering panoramic views of the city and its magnificent volcanoes. Embark on an exhilarating hike up Volcán Pacaya, where you can witness the raw power of nature and even roast marshmallows over the volcanic heat.

My trip was led by Dr. Chris Hale, a wonderful human being and an expert in Political Science and Latin American issues. No better professor to go in study abroad with. He is knowledgeable, chill and heavily invested in making this a life-changing experience for his students. Kudos to Dr. Hale. He is a great asset to the University of Alabama community.
