Studying abroad was never something that I saw myself doing in my four years at UA. When I chose to switch my major from nursing to English halfway through college, I didn’t know if I was able to graduate on time, let alone take more time to study abroad. However, with a lot of hard work and a lot of luck, I found myself able to do both of those things. One of the main reasons that I want to study abroad is because it gives me the ultimate exposure and immersion into a culture different from my own. Luckily, I was able to find a program that met the needs of credits for my major and studying in a country rich in history and culture. Choosing the Following Shakespeare through Italy program was a simple choice once those needs were met.  But now came the hard part: preparing. Over the past few months, I have been acquiring everything I might need for a study abroad program. This included packing clothes to help fit in, deciding the best shoes to wear for walking (very important!), and getting ahead on class reading. Knowing that I leave for my program in a little over 24 hours makes me both anxious and excited for this new adventure. I have never been out of the country before and I know that this is the opportunity of a lifetime. Being able to study Shakespeare in Italy as an English major is a true dream come true. The only thing left to do now is freshen up on my Italian. Ciao!
