The countdown has begun—2 days until I travel to Europe. I cannot believe Sophomore year has already come to an end, but I look forward to the exciting journey that lies ahead in the upcoming weeks. As an incoming freshmen, I always knew I wanted to study abroad, but I did not want to be gone an entire semester. After hearing about this UA Faculty Led two week program that travels to Warsaw, Poland and Prague, Czech Republic, and specifically focuses on Accounting, I had found the study abroad program for me. As an Accounting major I have heard about the differences between GAAP and the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in my previous accounting classes. However, I have never had the opportunity to dig deeper into the subject–something I have always wanted to do. Through the study abroad experience, I will gain insight on the similarities and differences between GAAP and IFRS. If you are not an Accounting major these words might seem a little out there, but they are important topics in the accounting world today. There are ten other students participating in this study abroad program. We are divided into different groups, in these groups we will read different case studies on the strengths and weaknesses of the IFRS. Then we will present to the class our findings through analyzing the research papers. I look forward to the new cultures I will get to embrace, meeting other accounting majors, and learning about these important changing topics in accounting.
